TO BE...ARNOTT TO BEPosted on 12 Dec 2009
Here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for, the return of yours truly; the trailblazing, trendsetting, mind-altering Machiavellian mechanic of mayhem...Mike Arnott! (Hold your applause). Apparently the Winnipeg wrestling scene just hasn't been the same without me. This is evident by the fact that I've been bombarded with letters, postcards, telephone calls, electronic mails, telegraphs. The mediocre multitude is dying to know what I've been doing with my time and I'm going to tell you: It's none of your fucking business. One thing needs to be cleared up right off the bat. There has been alot of speculation and controversy recently within PCW regarding the debut of a new, masked manager, The Big Chee. Is this a fucking rib? The similarities between Mr. Chee and myself are blatantly obvious: He's tall, thin, immaculately dressed in designer suits, well-spoken and seemingly well-educated. Now I'm unsure if this is PCW management's idea of a practical joke on yours truly or perhaps just one of my many adoring fans attempting to pay tribute to this all-time great. Either way, I don't appreciate it. Allow me to assure you once and for all that I, Mike Arnott, am NOT The Big Chee. As a matter of fact, I have no desire whatsoever to be involved in any capacity on any local professional wrestling event. Been there, done that. Those days are now long behind me. After all, what more is there for me to accomplish in this business? I am perfectly content providing my journalistic expertise (for a hefty fee, mind you) here on www.premierchampionshipwrestling.com and now as co-host of the globally syndicated Premier Wrestling Radio: Unleashed. I will not be silenced! Winnipeg wrestling needs Mike Arnott. Mike Arnott does not need Winnipeg wrestling. Are we clear? Good. Speaking of radio shows, there has been an influx of locally-focused wrestling radio since the standard-setting Squared Circle was removed from the airwaves...for the third and final time. I think I will reserve my wrath regarding that subject for the next blog, as I feel that subject deserves a blog onto itself. One of my former co-hosts, Wayne Stanton, along with one of my harshest critics, Shane Madison, have teamed up in an effort to monopolize the local wrestling media. Do I really need to point out the double-standard that is prevalent in this matter? Obviously I do. Throughout my tenure as host of then-Winnipeg's only wrestling radio show I received an abundance of criticism due to the fact that I was affiliated with PCW, while also attempting to provide a fair and balanced outlook on the local wrestling industry as a whole. I will be the first one to admit that I fell far short of achieving that goal and often became immersed in the political agendas of other people. Shane Madison was one of my fiercest detractors and on numerous occasions pointed out the conflict of interest in having local promoters (or others with allegiances to specific promotions) co-hosting the show. Well, Wayne and Shane can hardly be considered bi-partisan representatives for Winnipeg wrestling. I will refrain from rendering judgment on that particular radio show since I have not yet had the opportunity to listen to a full episode of thier program, however, it is nice to see that the double-standard that exists in this business will run rampant with or without Mike Arnott. In closing, not a lot has changed in the local wrestling scene since I last set foot in the squared circle. I can't imagine anything changing too drastically anytime soon either. The best advice I can give to Winnipeg wrestling fans is to enjoy what we have. There is a plethora of talent and potential in this city and there are many options for local wrestling fans to choose from...and always remember, it is because of the fan base that this business exists. Opinions are indeed like assholes...everyone has them, but that doesn't mean you are not entitled to your opinion. Make sure your voice is heard despite the repercussions. If you remain silent you forfeit all hope for change. So, in the words of Rocky Balboa: "If I can change...and you can change...than everybody can change"! Keep the faith.
