"Showtime" Robby Royce Versus "The World's Own" Kenny Omega at Season's Beatings!

Winnipeg, Mb - Though controversy reigned after the phenomenal Hellbound event on Nov 5th 2009, when the smoke cleared, the PCW Power Rankings produced a brand new number one contender! "Showtime" Robby Royce will attempt to become a three-time PCW Heavyweight Champion when he challenges current title-holder Kenny Omega on Dec 10th 2009 at Season's Beatings!

Royce's sudden return to top singles contendership represents an intriguing scenario just as his relationship with long-time partner and close personal friend Anderson Tyson Moore may have come to an abrupt, violent end. As Team Impact, they dominated tag team wrestling in Manitoba for the past several years, winning the PCW gold on four occasions. Royce holds the record for most PCW Tag Team Championships held with seven reigns with four different partners. But ATM and "The Illustrious" Mr Brooks may have put an end to that at Hellbound.

In the main event, Team Impact were scheduled to defend their newly reclaimed PCW Tag Team Championship against former champions, The Suicide Kings. Much to both teams unhappiness, "The Canadian Loose Cannon" TJ Bratt orchestrated a hostile take over of the title when he revealed himself as the new mentor for the 400 lb behemoth Sabertooth. 'Tooth cashed in his open championship contract that he won by virtue of his victory in the Premier Rumble at Highway to Hell in April. Bratt then introduced 'Tooth's partner, his close friend, the near 400 lb German Juggernaut Moses Luke!

It was a fierce three-way war but when the dust had cleared, Moses Luke had pinned Robby Royce to win the PCW Tag Team Championship. Both Royce and ATM were clearly devastated by the loss. As Royce recovered, he was berated by Brooks who foolishly slapped the veteran. When Royce backed his manager into a corner, ATM unleashed a superkick to the side of Royce's head. A sudden emotional outburst perhaps, but ATM continued his rampage by pummeling his partner, striking him with a steel chain. A bloody Royce was left barely conscious in the ring.

Several days later, at the Kerry Brown Tribute event in front of 300 spectators, Royce & ATM attempted to honour their obligation to team together. The tension was obvious and their ability to put business first soon gave way to anger as they lost a handicapped match to first ever PCW Heavyweight Champion Chi Chi Cruz with help from Stan Saxon. Later in the night, Royce eliminated ATM from the Kerry Brown Memorial Rumble and, in a shocking moment, sacrificed his own spot in the Rumble to attack ATM and continue their brawl to the locker room.

There has been no official word from either party but it seems clear there are serious issues within Team Impact and Mr Brook's Alliance of Defiance super-clique. No doubt these events much weigh heavily on the mind of Robby Royce as he prepares to challenge for the country's top title at Season's Beatings.

While newer fans may know Royce as perhaps the most dominant tag team wrestler in PCW history, his long and storied career show him to be an exceptionally gifted and successful singles competitor with multiple Heavyweight Championships to his credit. He was a multiple CWF Heavyweight Champion. On April 21st 2001, Royce defeated "King of Old School" Steve Corino for the NWA North American Heavyweight Championship. Royce would never be defeated for that title. Instead, he moved on to Top Rope Championship Wrestling here he was a multiple-time TRCW Heavyweight Champion.

In 2002, Royce dominated Impact Championship Wrestling, winning the ICW Heavyweight crown. He continued his remarkable mission to dominate the Canadian wrestling landscape when he moved on to Premier Championship Wrestling in 2003. On February 3rd 2005, he defeated "Outlaw" Adam Knight to capture his first PCW Heavyweight Championship. Though his reign was not lengthy, he would regain the title in July of that year, defeating Mentallo and beginning an historic effort to unify the Manitoba industry.

Within weeks, he challenged TRCW Heavyweight Champion "Beautiful" Bobby Jay to a title vs title match, adding another TRCW reign to his collection. Still recognized as the ICW Heavyweight Champion, Royce took to carrying all three title belts to the ring and defending them as the Unified Heavyweight Champion. On December 1st 2005, he took his efforts to unparalleled heights by taking part in a Triple Threat Match against NWA Canadian X Division Champion Rawskillz and AWA World Heavyweight Champion Steve Corino. Skillz would be victorious, officially merging the TRCW and ICW titles with the PCW Heavyweight Championship.

Following that loss, Royce re-dedicated himself to tag team wrestling. He had already won two PCW Tag Team Championships by this time, once with TJ Bratt and again with "Enforcer" JP Kaos. He would go on to capture the title five more times with two more partners. In 2008, he was inducted into the PCW Hall of Fame, becoming the only active competitor to be honoured in that manner.

Now facing the opportunity to reign again as PCW Heavyweight Champion, it seems fitting that he'd challenge Kenny Omega. For many years, their careers have crossed paths numerous times. As a rookie, Omega was often referred to as a "young Robby Royce" and many fans and insiders attribute their incredible Best of Five series in the Summer of 2003 with putting Kenny on the road to singles super-stardom.

That unique series was a "Fans Pick The Stipulation" contest. Immediately prior to each match, fans would submit their choices for stipulation and one fan would draw a winner. With the series tied heading into the final contest, Match Five would be a "Total Annihilation" Match, long considered a Royce speciality. But the young Omega upset his veteran opponent to capture the series and a new-found respect from his peers and fans. With the victory, he became number one contender and immediately captured his first PCW Heavyweight Championship.

It has been many years since they have squared off against each other in singles competition. Omega has been a dominant champion since winning his fourth title from Mike Angels in March 2008. During that time, the PCW Heavyweight Champion has competed all over the world, in Europe, in Japan for DDT numerous times, and all over the United States. At one time, he held three different championships in three different promotions in three separate countries on two hemispheres.

Known as "The World's Own" due to the fact he actually competes all over the world, Omega is unquestionably the best wrestler in Canada and perhaps the hottest indy sensation on the planet!

Signing with Ring Of Honor in 2008, Omega has quickly risen up the ranks to top contender. On November 13th 2009, he defeated Nakajima in an incredible match. One night later, he took ROH World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries to the limit in Mississauga, but the champion escaped due to controversial ref stoppage.

As devastating as Hellbound was for Royce, losing the PCW Tag Team Championship and being assaulted by his partner and manager, he attained a personal victory of sorts when he defeated Mike Angels. It was clear that neither ATM nor Mr Brooks wanted Royce to compete in the singles match, preferring he concentrate his efforts on their tag team title defense. But an apparent injury to new AOD member Kraven Sicario meant Angels drove from Dauphin for nothing...until, that is, he dared "the old Robby Royce" to step up and face him.

It was a match for the ages as the three-time former PCW Heavyweight Champion battled the two-time former PCW Heavyweight Champion in an exciting opening match! Royce secured the victory, not without controversy however, but instantly moved into the number one contender's spot. Omega's ROH pedigree won't intimidate the veteran Royce who, at The Back to School Bash, defeated ROH Superstars El Generico, Kevin Steen and Omega as part of the Fatal Four Way Tag Team Championship match.

Will the highly decorated Royce be the man to finally unseat the exceptionally talented Omega? An epic dream match, Kenny Omega vs Robby Royce is a contest fans wondered if they'd ever get the opportunity to witness again. They will, at PCW's Seasons Beatings, Dec 10th, only at Dylans On Pembina!
