Posted on 20 Jan 2010 by PCW "King of Old School" Steve Corino & Robby Royce vs "Outlaw" Adam Knight & Anderson Tyson Moore It was perhaps the most anticipated and well-received announcements in the Manitoba wrestling industry in 2009 - the Return of the King of Old School, "Mr Wrestling" Steve Corino to Premier Championship Wrestling! As happily surprised as the fans were upon the revelation, the Alliance of Defiance were shocked for another reason. Their plan to destroy and eliminate Robby Royce by the end of the year had been derailed in spectacular fashion. And though bloody and battered, it was Robby Royce who appeared triumphant as the stunned AOD slithered away from the ring as Season's Beatings came to a close. This Thursday night at PCW's New Years Knockout!, the AOD's "Outlaw" Adam Knight & Anderson Tyson Moore will do battle Steve Corino & Robby Royce. The implosion of Team Impact was an unpredictable and shocking development in 2009. The legendary super clique looked to be on a career run, entering the year as PCW Tag Team Champions for the third time and promising to dominate the promotion. Royce and ATM were arguably the most talented and successful version of Team Impact and appeared poised to make good on their promise. Locked in a bitter feud with the upstart Suicide Kings - Nate Hardy & Marty Labossier, the young duo would finally upset the champions at the Anniversary Spectacular on March 11th. Team Impact's failure to regain the gold when faced with the stipulation that they would never receive a shot at Nate & Marty again, led to rumours of dissension in the ranks. Their manager, "The Illustrious" Mr Brooks claimed everything was fine and that seemed to be the reality of the situation as Royce and ATM orchestrated a plan to regain the gold. Physically attacking Nate's girlfriend Lacey, the Suicide Kings agreed to allow Team Impact into their title match with Ring Of Honor's El Generico & Kevin Steen. When the smoke had cleared, Royce & ATM were PCW Tag Team Champions for the fourth time. The declared themselves Simply The Best team on the planet and stated that there was no team in PCW or anywhere else capable of defeating them. As they prepared to defend the gold in a rematch against Nate & Marty, PCW Legend "The Canadian Loose Cannon" TJ Bratt confronted them and revealed he had put together the largest team in the world - the 400lb behemoth Sabertooth and the near-400lb "German Juggernaut" Moses Luke. They entered the match and pinned Royce to capture the gold. Following the contest, an irate Brooks confronted both men but Royce refused to be disrespected by his manager and backed him into the corner. At that moment, everything changed. ATM shocked the audience by superkicking Royce in the side of the head. A sudden emotional outburst could have been forgiven, perhaps even understandable. But at Brooks' direction, ATM continued to assault Royce, leaving him bloody and unconscious, delivering several strikes with a steel chain wrapped around his fist. At Season's Beatings, Brooks led the entire AOD to the ring, ATM, Adam Knight & Kraven Sicario and performed a tasteless mock funeral for the career of "Showtime". ATM claimed he was sick of "carrying" Royce to glory and success he didn't deserve. He said Royce, the multiple-time former Heavyweight Champion, was a great man at one time, but that ATM was the future and the future was now. During the shameless ten bell salute, Royce hit the ring, sending the AOD scattering from the ring as he swung a baseball bat at them. He vowed they had not seen the last of him, and made good on his threat, interjecting himself as ATM lost to rookie Sir Bradley Charles and Knight lost his newly won PCW Canadian Championship to "Average" Joe Dixon. During the main event, Royce challenged PCW Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. Royce had vaulted to the number one contender spot by virtue of winning an exceptional contest against Mike Angels the previous month. It was another Royce/Omega classic as the AOD paced at ringside, unable to attack under threat of dismissal by Commissioner Chris Stevens. But the moment the bell rang to signal the end of the match, they pounced and brutally assaulted Royce. Once again, he was left bloody and semi-conscious. ATM & Knight pointed out that no one would come to Royce's defense and no one would be willing to stand beside him and face the AOD. With whatever strength he had left, Royce refused to stay down, struggling to his knees and announcing that he had, in fact, found someone willing to partner with him - his arch-Nemesis Steve Corino! The crowd erupted while the AOD's collective jaws dropped to the floor. Immediately following the match, an emotionally raw and still-bloody Royce explained his decision: Irate, but confident, the Alliance of Defiance released a video statement of their own, also taken immediately following Royce's announcement at Season's Beatings: The stage was now set for perhaps the most anticipated and personal tag team encounter in PCW history. Royce's choice of partner was shocking but upon further examination, maybe not so much. Both Royce and Corino had repeatedly expressed their infinite level of respect for the other. Their nearly decade-long relationship had resulted in some of the best matches of all time, and history-making moments. It all began in 2001. Royce was the multiple-time and dominant CWF Heavyweight Champion while Corino was the NWA North American Champion. They would meet on April 21 2001 in Winnipeg and engage in the match of the year as Royce defeated Corino to capture the NWA Championship. Only days later, Corino would become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Their paths would not cross again until 2005. At PCW's Beat the Summer Heat, Corino, now the AWA World Heavyweight Champion would avenge his prior loss by defeating Royce in a World title match at the LID Nightclub. A furious Royce would go on to dominate the Manitoba wrestling landscape that year, capturing the PCW, TRCW and ICW Heavyweight Championships. Determined to cement his legacy and prove his superiority once and for all, he challenged Corino again. "The King of Old School" returned to PCW on December 1st 2005, still the AWA World Heavyweight Champion. Both he and Royce would fight themselves right out of the victory as the third man in the Triple Threat Contest Rawskillz, was victorious. Many thought the long, hard-fought series and personal issues between Royce and Corino were over as they embraced at the conclusion of the match and publicly professed their respect and admiration for each other. With history as a guide, it should have come as no surprise when Royce turned to Corino to stand beside him against the Alliance of Defiance. Steve explained his motivation in an online video statement this week: Corino's involvement represents a fine opportunity for Knight & ATM as his resume and credentials are historic and exceptional. He's the only man to have ever held all three of the AWA, NWA and ECW World Heavyweight Championships. He is currently featured on HDnet television as one of Ring of Honor's top superstars and has wrestled all over the world, being especially successful in Japan and has worked for both WWE and TNA. Corino's feud with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes was legendary. Being able to defeat a man of Corino's reputation would cement both Knight & ATM but victory will not come easy as both Corino and especially Royce appear personally motivated to end the AOD once and for all. PCW Tag Team Championship "787"(c) w/ "Canadian Loose Cannon" TJ Bratt vs The Suicide Kings w/Lacey PCW's Hellbound saw the return of two PCW Superstars from the past, the ascension of a top rookie and the shocking championship victory that united them all, but left the Suicide Kings bitter and angry. PCW Legend, "The Canadian Loose Cannon" TJ Bratt, vowed to take a young, potential superstar and impart upon him his considerable veteran knowledge and guide him to success. At Hellbound, as PCW Tag Team Champions Team Impact prepared to defend the gold against former champions The Suicide Kings, Nate Hardy & Marty Labossier, Bratt interjected. He introduced his new protege, the 400lb behemoth Sabertooth who immediately cashed in the open championship contract he possessed by virtue of winning the Premier Rumble on April 22nd 2009. Bratt's wasn't finished unveiling surprises. He brought out the "German Juggernaut" Moses Luke as 'Tooth's partner, creating the largest tag team in the world. With Sabertooth's raw ability and Luke's exceptional veteran talent and experience, they appeared to be a considerable duo. Called "787" after the world's largest passenger airliner and their combined wight, they appeared to be the physical embodiment of the Unstoppable Force teaming with the Immovable Object. Moses Luke & Sabertooth wasted no time in imposing their will on PCW defeating The Suicide Kings and Team Impact to capture the title. It was the third PCW Tag Team Championship for Moses Luke who made history in 2003 by becoming the first ever tag team champion in PCW. The loss was a difficult pill to swallow for Nate & Marty. They had won the title on March 11th 2009, defeating Team Impact in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match and held the championship longer than any other team in PCW history. When they finally lost the gold, it was in a Fatal Fourway Match at the Back to School Bash and they weren't even pinned for the loss. Exercising their re-match clause immediately at Hellbound, they found themselves forced into a Triple Threat Match and again, they lost without actually losing the fall. Their frustration was evident at Season's Beatings when they defeated "Remarkable" Chris Marxwell & "Enforcer" JP Kaos and demonstrated an aggressive style. More personally bitter for Nate has been the unusual relationship between Sabertooth and Nate's girlfriend Lacey. For months, 'Tooth went to Lacey's aid whenever she needed, often removing himself from active matches to ensure she was safe. At Season's Beatings, Nate finally warned Sabertooth to leave his girlfriend alone or else. 'Tooth ignored the warning and once again interjected to help Lacey when the Brothers' Chee accosted her at ringside. An irate Hardy attacked Sabertooth, smashing him in the head with the CWF Canadian Championship belt, a title Nate has held for well over a year. The personal issue may come to a head this Thursday night as the Suicide Kings finally get the two-on-two Championship match they felt they have been wrongly denied for months. Undoubtedly Lacey will be in the Kings' corner and Nate will be keeping a close eye on her. Though much smaller than Sabertooth, Nate has demonstrated an immense heart over his career, consistently over-achieving with numerous championships to his credit. His recent public bitterness has not endeared him to the audience who are solidly behind 'Tooth, Moses and Bratt. This contest represents an intriguing match up of similar team structures. Physically, they could not be more opposite, but both teams contain a 2009 Rookie of the Year candidate and both Marty and 'Tooth are easily capable of winning that award. Both teams also contain veterans in Luke and Nate who have experienced singles success - Nate, a multiple-time former PCW Canadian Champion and Luke, the multiple-time Ringmasters Entertainment Heavyweight Champion. The edge may come down to each team's management. Bratt's expertise, passion and physical presence versus Lacey's emotional motivation but potential distraction...for both Nate and 'Tooth. The nearly 800 lb "787" will use power, size and strength against the Kings' superior speed, agility and death-defying offense in what could be the match of the night! PCW Canadian Championship "Average" Joe Dixon(c) vs Scott Justice Perhaps no man exemplifies what will, desire and effort can accomplish better than "Average" Joe Dixon who reinvented himself in 2008 and went on to dominate 2009 like no other person in the Manitoba industry. He went undefeated all year, beating such exceptional talents as "Priceless" Chad Tatum, Mentallo and "Outlaw" Adam Knight before punctuating his resurgence by capturing the PCW Canadian Championship, the first singles gold of his decade-long career. Dixon will be defending his title against a man almost equally as impressive in Scott Justice who burst upon the scene in 2009 and has not lost a match in his short career! A stand-out at Lance Storm's wrestling Academy, Justice has been one of the most sought after young wrestlers in the country and has performed regularly in Alberta, Manitoba and Australia. Originally, "All World" Mike Angels was scheduled to get this title opportunity, but in the midst of a personal feud with Kraven Sicario, he inadvertently struck Commissioner Chris Stevens during a wild melee, resulting in a suspension which Director of Authority Jay Walker increased, eliminating Angels from New Years Knockout. Walker's decision was met with skepticism as his relationship with Justice is well-established. When promoted to the position of Director of Authority and Officiating in Summer 2009, Walker vowed to enforce the rules and ensure justice was served. A respected and fair official, the promotion by Commissioner Stevens was well received. Walker recruited Justice who at the time was continuing to train with Storm, as a special referee. It was not long before accusations of conspiracy were leveled against the PCW management team as number one contender Antonio Scorpio Jr was seemingly screwed at every turn in his year-plus pursuit of PCW Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. Frustrated and angry, Scorpio tombstoned Walker. A month later, after another controversial decision, Scorpio tombstoned Justice. Weeks later, Walker angrily explained how he had to assuage the unhappiness of Lance Storm who was not impressed that his top student nearly had his career ended before it even began. Scorpio would go on to suffer a freak injury while wrestling Anderson Tyson Moore, breaking his ankle. Though only thought to be on the shelf for a few weeks, a vengeful Walker hatched a plan for revenge. He called out Scorpio and told him his injury was karma for the injuries he had inflicted in 2009, including breaking the arm of Commissioner Stevens. He brought out Justice in full wrestling attire who announced he had graduated top in the class at Storm Academy and intended to make his professional debut against Scorpio. Scorpio declined due to his obvious injury and was immediately attacked from behind by Kraven Sicario, allowing Justice to roll him up for the "victory". The attack aggravated Scorpio's injury, snapping his ankle and putting him out of wrestling indefinitely. Justice and Walker would go on to constantly belittle, challenge and insult Scorpio who has not been seen in PCW since the initial attack and is not expected back for several more months. Arrogance aside, Justice has put together an impressive string of victories, defeating Chris Marxwell, fellow Storm Academy graduate Sir Bradley Charles and former PCW Canadian Champion "Priceless" Chad Tatum. With an undefeated record and exceptional in-ring talent, Justice insisted on gaining further opportunities. After defeating Tatum, he declared that he deserved to be Canadian Champion and would win the belt "one way or another". Later that night, Dixon faced "Outlaw" Adam Knight in a phenomenal battle of big men. It represented the pinnacle of Dixon's re-invention. In fall 2008, he addressed the fans, admitting that for ten years he had been little more than a "mid-card comedy act" and he was sick of people assuming that was all he was. He said he may not have the best body or the best tan, but wrestling was about more than that. Dixon said he would prove that an "average Joe" like him, with an "average look, average body and average tan", but great talent and desire could succeed. At Season's Beatings, Dixon cemented his status as the ost successful and talented big man of 2009 when he defeated Knight to capture the PCW Canadian Championship. But he had little time to enjoy it as Walker provided the distraction and Justice slid into the ring, took the CDN title belt and absconded with it out the front door like a thief in the night. He declared himself the "unofficial Canadian Champion" and took the belt to Australia with him where he has been defending it all over the continent. In addition, he captured the Australian Tag Team Championship and is a top contender for PCW's 2009 Rookie of the Year, contributing to his perception that "anything Scorpio can do, Scott can do better". He'll have a chance to prove that to the fans, himself and Dixon this Thursday Night. Winning the first singles championship of his career was an exceptional accomplishment for Dixon but he will soon find that keeping it can sometimes be more difficult than winning it. But Dixon is determined to continue to dominate in 2010 and intends to take possession of the belt he won in December and truly celebrate his career victory. The winningest wrestler of 2009 versus the undefeated rookie for the PCW Canadian Championship, this Thursday at Dylans on Pembina! Fans Bring The Weapons Brothers' Chee w/ Big Chee vs "Remarkable" Chris Marxwell & "Enforcer" JP Kaos The fiercely competitive tag team division in PCW will be taken to a whole new level as Fans Bring The Weapons makes it's Dylans on Pembina debuted this Thursday Night at New Years Knockout! Violence, weaponry, blood and a train-wreck offensive style are trademarks of the sick & twisted Brothers' Chee but this match was the result of a passionate challenge by "Remarkable" Chris Marxwell and "Enforcer" JP Kaos. The extremely popular duo are attempting to turn the tables on the sadistic Brothers' Chee who have unleashed a a storm of violence and controversy since their arrival a few months ago. Their mysterious manager, The Big Chee has vowed they will "rape & pillage" PCW at will. This contest is a re-match from Hellbound, when Kaos & Marxwell were overwhelmed by the depth of depravity the Chee's were willing to sink to. The rookie Pon Chee kicked a steel chair into the face of Kaos to earn the victory following a match that featured virtually every dirty trick and means of cheating ever witnessed in professional wrestling. Post match, it got worse as they brutally assaulted Marxwell before splitting a thick wooden pool cue over his skull. Marxwell was carried from the ring, blood gushing down his face and rushed to a local medical facility. He required multiple stitches and was diagnosed with a concussion. At Season's Beatings, it was apparent neither Marxwell nor Kaos were in 100% condition but they attempted to wrestle a number one contenders match against the Suicide Kings. They lost, but it was not the last they would be seen. When The Brothers' Chee were defeated by PCW Tag Team Champions "787" later in the evening, Marxwell hit the ring and unloaded several strikes with Kaos' kendo stick on both Chee's. He told them if they wanted violence, he'd give it to them...at New Years Knockout in his type of match - Fans Bring The Weapons! The rules of this match are simple - no count out, no disqualification. Pinfall and submission are the only ways to win. All items are available for use and fans are encouraged to bring their own unique objects to be utilized as weaponry for the match. Will Marxwell & Kaos be able to beat the Brothers of brutality at their own game or will the depraved Double Chee's continue their road of ruin through PCW en route to the Championship? "Priceless" Chad Tatum vs "The Business" Jon Falcon 2009 was a bittersweet year for "Priceless" Chad Tatum. He entered as the PCW Canadian Champion, continued to be one of the best wrestlers in the country and made history by setting a mind-boggling longevity record with the title. But he was also targeted by "Outlaw" Adam Knight, assaulted at every opportunity by him and his co-horts and battled multiple injuries all year long. Tatum's refusal to take off the required time to heal from injuries caused by Knight, who viciously attacked him at his home in Brandon, prevented Tatum from ever performing at 100%. He insisted on keeping his spot in the Premier Cup in June, wrestling with a separated shoulder and broken bones in his face in a losing effort to Robby Royce. He rebounded with an inspirational victory the following month, but was out-brutalized by Knight in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the gold. At Season's Beatings, Tatum intended to end the year on a high note, facing sensational rookie Scott Justice. But as always seems to be the case, Justice and Walker had a plan. A then-unknown assailant hit the ring and devastated Tatum, allowing Justice to secure the victory. The assailants is no longer unknown. The 6'3", 235lb man is Johnny Falcon, the latest Lance Storm Academy graduate to enter PCW at the behest of Jay Walker. He looked impressive in the brief moment he appeared at Season's Beatings, but he'll have his work cut out for him when he makes his pro debut against veteran Tatum. New Years Knockout represents the chance to put 2009 behind him as Tatum looks to regain his top contender status. He'll have a large obstacle in Falcon to overcome as the rookie will be determined to make an immediate impression. In addition: At Season's Beatings, multiple-time former RME Heavyweight Champion EZ Ryder shocked the Manitoba wrestling industry when he made his PCW debut. He decimated the popular Kory Kinkade in brutal fashion to secure his first ever PCW victory. He made it clear that he intends to be at New Years Knockout. Will EZ have another victim? The Alliance of Defiance added some international flavour when they recruited "The Inter-Galactic Superstar" Kraven Sicario. At Season's Beatings the masked man of multiple monikers revealed that he had achieved his doctorate and was the first ever official Master of Psychology in the wrestling industry. "El ladron de Almos" has been pursuing Mike Angels and will also be at New Years Knockout! With Angels suspended, what will "El Petrino" do? PCW is set to make a major announcement at New Years Knockout, referred to as a "blast from the past". What will this mysterious revival entail and how will it impact PCW's Thunderstruck in February?
