Posted on 16 Feb 2010 by Jay On paper this show looked amazing. How could they screw it up? We'll get to that in a minute. Show starts with Orton and Sheamus, a rematch from the Rumble. Great to start to Raw but man is over as a face all of a sudden. Decent match, built up more tension between Legacy...but where is it going? Looks like it might be a triple threat match or something now at Mania. Bret Hart comes out and cuts another good promo and then says his goodbyes. As he's hopping into his limo though, a car backs up and crushes his leg. I didn't really mind this segment because they made it seem a little more real. The cameras weren't watching and waiting for the car to backup. You know Vince staged this to screw him one last time before he said 'goodbye'. It'll be interesting to see where this goes. I'm still hoping for a Vince Vs. Bret match because I know it'll be entertaining as hell. Vince may not be a wrestler, but he's had some of the best emotionally-driven, entertaining matches in WWE history. He just knows how to work the crowd. ShowMiz Vs. MVP/Mark Henry...it's what it was. Basic tag match, MVP gets the surprise rollup to continue his rivalry with Miz. I'm sure we'll see the tag team rematch next week with the titles on the line. Time for the Jerry Springer segment. This is what makes people hope that TNA can beat WWE. It's segments like these that make you want to change the channel and wish you were back in the early 90's so you can watch the good programming again. Some parts were funny, but overall the segment was a flop and a waste of time. The shows have had a hotstreak going for a bit and then they wasted 20 minutes of our time with this. And the payoff? Mae Young? that joke got old when we had to pay to see her tits hanging by her belly button at the 2000 Royal Rumble. I could ramble on and pick apart each part of the segment but it's not even worth that time. Ted Dibiase Vs. Kofi Kingston. Another match between Elimination Chamber participants. A decent match for the time they were given and they both looked great. Dibiase is looking better and better each time he's out there and I'm sure by next year he's going to be one of the top stars on Raw. Dibiase goes over thankfully to build up some steam...he's gonna need it if he's facing Orton at Mania. Antonio Inoki is announced for the Hall of Fame. I never knew much about the man but that video package seems to have summed up his career very well and shown how much of a legend he really was. This guy's the Hulk Hogan of Japan and he deserves it obviously to be recognized by American fans. Congrats to him. Here's where they actually used Jerry Springer well with his "Final Thoughts". It came off great and actually plugged the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view well. But then Mae Young came back and I was hoping for a commercial break. John Cena addresses Batista and I wish they would let Batista talk a little bit rather than threaten people. I loved the heel heat Batista got on SmackDown for his segment without him ever saying a word but enough is enough and it's time for an explanation. Batista Vs. Cena for Mania should be good considering their Summerslam match was actually pretty decent a couple years back. I wish they'd use that and really start building up the heat but I guess they're too focused on guest hosts and the February pay-per-view. Either way, Mania's still looking damn good on paper. Triple H Vs. Cena was another decent match and I'm glad that Sheamus came out looking strong in the end. By taking out Cena and Triple H it showed some of that strength that WWE seems to keep forgetting about. However, it's still looking as if Sheamus will be dropping the championship at EC. And unfortunately, I feel as if it's going to be Triple H. Then they can build the championship rematch opportunity between Hunter and Sheamus. Not the best Mania match, but oh well. I'm guessing Hunter can pull a rabbit out of a hat and make Sheamus look phenomenal at Mania. And since this is his boy, he won't treat him like he has RVD, CM Punk, Kane, Booker T, and all the others he's kept under him for all those years. Overall, if Jerry Springer wasn't there it would've been an ok Raw. Not their strongest considering some of the great moments they've had in the past few weeks but not everyone's a winner. This one just really left me saying 'that's it?'. I will say this though that minus the Springer segment, every match had some name value it seemed. It hasn't been like that for a while but they've done a great job with slowly building some of these stars...Kofi, Miz, Dibiase, Rhodes, MVP...they're all recognizable stars now somewhat and not nobodies trying to fit in. But...with the buildup to Mania and now that TNA's competing head to head starting on March 8th, WWE better get their asses moving or else they're going to be in trouble!
