Raw Deal For Cena

Posted on 24 Feb 2010 by Jay

The show kicked off with SmackDown's champion...odd choice, Chris Jericho coming out and bragging that he won the World Championship. Edge comes from the crowd, spears Y2J and says it's them two in the main event at WrestleMania!

This'll be a great match and I'm looking forward to it, but this promo was quite lackluster. We knew Edge was going to be there so why not have him come out and start the night? Say how he had a tough choice and invited both champions to show up tonight? Makes more sense than the SD champ just randomly showing up to brag that he won. And Edge barely said a word. As good as it is to see him back, he's just been jumping barricades and spearing people without saying much of anything. Fans are going to get tired of it.

Then Cena comes right out and says he was screwed just like Bret at the Elimination Chamber. Good continuation in that angle, Cena looked somewhat pissed...could've probably been more angry. Vince came out and was classic Vince with some good mic work and announces Cena Vs. Batista for the main tonight. Great setup! If Cena wins, he goes to Mania. If Batista wins, Cena won't go to Mania. Makes sense too. My complaint was at the time, why not Cena Vs. Sheamus...then I find out Sheamus skipped out of Raw due to injury so that's fine.

Maryse Vs. Gail Kim for the Divas Championship. They prolonged this as much as they could...the tournament started in January and got dragged out as much as it could. They actually built up some decent heat for this match to make you care about it but then they just gave us Maryse as champ. Maryse is a great quality heel and I'm hoping that Gail Kim keeps chasing for the title because they could have some decent matches with each other in a feud.

Backstage useless segment with the guest host that needs no review other than a thumbs down. The Legacy segment though was good with Orton apologizing, it looks as if WWE has to bite the bullet and turn Orton face on this angle and it's what they're building towards now.

Legacy Vs. Bourne/Kofi/Yoshi Tatsu

A decent first match for the night after all the promos and it was great to see Orton attack Legacy and get another huge face pop. This guy turned instant good guy in quite the swerve. This is what happens when WWE takes too long with an angle and screws it all up. Looking forward to whatever match Legacy's in at Mania. Also good to see Yoshi get the pin in this match.

Following that we get another amazing video package, WWE always does these well for the HBK/Taker feud. And we get a solid promo from both Shawn and Taker and establishes that the rematch is going to happen! Will it live up to the expectations of last year's? I actually think so. Definitely looking forward to it and you have to wonder who's going to win now that Shawn's career is on the line? I'm still 90% sure Taker's going to win but there's that doubt...

Money In The Bank Qualifier: CHRISTIAN! Thank god this guy's in it, and I don't care who else is in...but he needs to win it. His return was so highly-anticipated and jumping to ECW killed off that heat. Winning MITB and cashing it on his brother would be a great way to get back some heat.

Diva Bullriding Contest...almost as bad as listening to old men jacked up on steroids talk about how they're better than everyone else. I said almost! Leads to a Tag Title Match and ShowMiz hangs onto the belt. The Miz is great! That's all there is to it. He's one of the most entertaining characters in the WWE right now and he'll be sticking around for a while. Creative seems to be very high on him again.

Wendi Richter in the Hall of Fame...not bad.

Bret's got "torn ligaments, etc."...bad.

Vince inviting Bret back next week for a proper farewell...not bad.

For everything else, there's SmackDown.

Batista Vs. Cena...not even a match but great with Batista beating Cena down for heel heat. Made Batista look like an asshole, tough, and dominant. I'm just hoping this angle gets some depth to it rather than Batista just beating up Cena for the next four weeks.

That's it but we got some great matches announced for WrestleMania and I'm looking forward to it this year for sure. Last year was just 2 matches you were looking forward to...Taker/HBK and the Legends Vs. Jericho. This year's looking a lot bigger and I'm loving it. Looking forward to next week and see if they can continue the momentum. I'm guessing with Cheech/Chong it'll be an entertaining Raw.
